3rd End-User Workshop on DNICast Results at Intersolar

June 1st, 2017, from 09:15 to 13:30

The workshop was organized back-to-back with Intersolar at ICM - Internationales Congress Center Munchen, Munich, Germany, Room 22.
The workshop presented the nearly final results of the whole project.

More information is under the "Events" section.

Webinar on Data Assimilation Methods

December 16th, 2016, from 13:00 to 14:00 CET

The webinar was about "Data Assimilation Methods." The aim is to improve DNI forecasts with Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) by assimilating data from Meteosat Second Generation (MSG). The webinar will cover such topics as: Examining the impact of assimilating MSG radiances and cloud products, and testing 4D-variational data assimilation for kilometre-scale NWP.

More information under the "Project Resources" section.

DNICast consortium members at SolarPACES

The 22nd annual conference of SolarPACES took place in Abu Dhabi (UAE) on 11-14 October 2016. Several abstracts and posters of the DNICast project members have been accepted, and a special session devoted to DNICast results was scheduled on 13 October in the official conference programme of  SolarPaces.

More information is under the "Events" section.

New Deliverable is available, D3.4

D3.4: Report on the operation of sky imagers and preliminary validation of results including method uncertainties.
The deliverable could be downloaded from the Project Resources section.

Milestone 18: Exemplary CST plants defined

For a first assessment of the influence of the improvement in DNI nowcasting on the nowcasting of plant output, exemplary power plants for all CST options have been defined. Three CSP and four CPV plants were selected:

- 110 MWel parabolic trough plant with Eurotrough 150 collectors, oil as heat transfer fluid and 5 hour thermal storage.

- 35 MWel parabolic trough plant with Eurotrough 100 collectors and water as heat transfer fluid, without storage.

- 110 MWel solar tower plant with an external cylindrical salt receiver and 5 hour thermal storage.

-137 kWp refractive point focus HCPV plant with Fresnel lenses, high efficiency triple junction III-V PV cells and two axis tracking. Electrical configuration: individually distributed.

- 1.28 MWp reflective large area point focus HCPV plant with high efficiency III-V PV cells and two axis tracking. Electrical configuration: sub-fields distributed.

-19.9 MWp linear reflective LCPV plant with parabolic concentrators, crystalline silicon PV cells and single-axis tracking. Electrical configuration: sub-fields distributed and linear arrangement.

- 1.26 MWp refractive point focus HCPV, with Fresnel lenses, high efficiency triple junction III-V PV cells and two axis tracking. Electrical configuration: individually distributed and linear arrangement.

For CSP with storage, a time of delivery (ToD) tariff with different remuneration rates for different hours of the day has been selected according to the one currently applied in South Africa. According to this the CSP plant operator gets the nominal feed-in tariff for every kWh delivered between 5:00 and 16:29 as well as between 21:30 to 22:00. For the electricity delivered between 16:30 and 21:29 the remuneration is 2.7 times of the nominal feed-in tariff and for the remaining hours there will be no remuneration at all.
